ABOUT THIS DEPARTMENT
Our hospital has Surgical & Medical Intensive Care Units which provide advanced, personalized care for patients. Surgical ICU is situated near the surgical complex enabling easy access in an emergency situation.
Our 3-bed HDU is for patients with conditions that do not need intensive care, but do require specialized monitoring, nursing and resources.
4 Theater complex & 13 theaters fully functioning (OT A,B,C & Eye)
- Theatre sessions of 13 theaters are fully functioning (onco-surgical theater non-functional)
- Increased the number of surgeons 2018 -12 , 2021 -23
- List of surgeries performed increased from 2018-2021
- Operating by minimum number of staff

Need to complete 3 theater complexes in two 10 story buildings
Newly initiated NSICU (4 beds with equipment) & Trauma ICU (ETU)
Improvement of Patient Monitoring system with latest technology – centrally monitoring centrally functioning system first time introduced to a government hospital in Sri Lanka
Upgraded Hi-tech improvement – (CRRT machine-2019 May)
Current BOR main ICU’s – SICU 100% MICU – 80% (out of these more than 60% of beds at a given time occupied by neurosurgical patients.)
Upgraded all intensive care units by replacing equipment and given new equipment to initiate/ expand ICU beds
